Free Fiction?

I’m obviously starting out and I don’t have a very large online presence (thank you for reading my blog, the 10 people from UK, US and Poland!) so I was thinking, should I offer some short stories for free?

I’m the member of a few online writing groups and they often post pictures as inspiration to budding or established authors. I’m wondering if I should use that inspiration and jot down a few short stories? I am close to completing my latest novel and I usually take a break before editing so that I can be a bit more objective. In that break, I could pen a few short stories for publication for free. What do you think?

I could look at putting them self published on Amazon and other platforms. They would probably need a cover, wouldn’t they? I wonder if I could find a cover artist for free? Hmm.. thoughts..
