Edit Edit Edit

The Disheartening and Difficult Process of Editing

I am worried about the state of my novel. I have been advised, very positively, to edit. Edit edit edit, so that’s what I am doing. IMG_5585

Quite rightly, a novel is like one’s baby. Editing it is one of the most painful things a writer can do, but also one of the kindest.

However, as I hack away at the text, chopping sentences, rewriting sentences, moving entire paragraphs I can’t help but find doubt creeping in.

Is it any good? Is it an exciting story? Have I written a page turner? What if it’s rubbish? What if I’ve wasted all this time on a project that’s just basically not any good? What if no one likes the story?

Doing My Research

Self Publishing

When thinking about self publishing, I have a few worries.

  1. If I self publish in a digital format, will I still be able to submit to adownload publishers?
  2. Will anyone even find my story to read it?
  3. Do I physically have the time to write another novel? My free time is about to vanish and the posts and novels I don’t have time to write now will be even more limited soon.
  4. Would anyone want to read it? What if it’s rubbish? What if the very kind and gentle rejections I recieved after submitting my manuscripts are actually because the novel is rubbish?

I’ve been researching to find out some answers to my questions.

Pen on Paper

How Does One Write a Serial?

I’m just wondering about the actual mechanics of pen on paper. I obviously know how to write but what I mean is, how does a serial story come about? After writing my last novel, I did a lot of editing (possibly not enough) and linked parts back to other parts, added other bit of information into the beginning so it made sense later on.

But once a serial is published, I can’t really go back and add in parts that I’ve missed or link up ideas that I didn’t have at the start of the story.

I imagine, a writer would have to have a very clear image of the story in their head before publishing. Should the novel be written before publishing even one part or can it be published in serial when the ending hasn’t even been written?

Coming soon..

So, I’m Thinking…

My idea is to publish a serial young adult science fiction post distopian utopian novel here.

I’m a bit nervous though. Firstly, sending your work out into the internet where it can be obliterated by anyone, is really scary. However, I’m really keen to have people read my story. I’m just worried that if I self publish on a blog all by myself, am I missing out on submitting to a proper serial novel publishing website.

It’s actually quite difficult to work out what the best thing to do is. It’s actually quite a new experience to be indecisive. I’m usually really organised and focused. I just don’t want to do the wrong thing.

What would you do?

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3..

Hello there!

Welcome to my blog. When I was studying website design, I was told it's incredibly unfashionable to welcome someone to your website. 'Make them feel welcome by having a good design, simple navigation and the information they're looking for,' we were told.

But this isn't just a website, this is my space, so I want to welcome you. This post actually only exists to help me test out the template to the blog but please feel welcome. Welcome enough to return when I have made some more developments on this blog.

I'm intending to share my writing journey, publish a serial book and some mindless meanderings.

I'm not a published author, but I just want to write so people will read. I have all these stories in my head and this is a way to get them out.

So, welcome!
